What are the best woods for fencing?

Once you have checked the perimeter and site of the fencing area, you need to proceed to check the best wood for fencing. Choosing the right wood for fencing isn’t an easy task and requires a lot of effort. While several people go for vinyl and aluminium fencing, wood is still considered to be the best choice.

Wooden fencing can play an important role in enhancing the aesthetic value or the house. However, one thing to remember is that not all woods are equal. Each of them has its characteristics and can prove to be extremely beneficial. You should be choosing a high-quality wood within your budget.

Grade Selection

Each wood type has its grade. People often have a tough time choosing the grade. Experts at Woodspec suggest it is best to choose premium or clear grade wood. Such woods are better than quality grade wood. This is usually because the quality grade woods, even though cheap, will have a lot of imperfections and will make your fence appear rotten.

The clear grade woods are however pretty expensive, but worth the money. If you are looking for a cheap option, you may consider opting for select or construction grade wood. Although cheap, they may prove to be effective for building a fence. However, there may be small imperfections. It is better to check with it.

Some of the woods that may be the best for fencing include the following

Pine, Spruce, and Fir

These woods have always been the most common choice for fencing, as they are durable and affordable. Spruce is mostly used for making picket fences or that of the stockade style. If you want such a style, you should consider choosing spruce.

Pine and Fir are the pressure-treated woods. These woods are treated with preservative, CCA (copper chromated arsenate) that helps to prevent termites and other insects from the woods. These are further treated to be water-repellent, which helps to increase the life and durability of the fences.

Cypress

Cypress is an extremely popular choice for fencing due to its ability to be insect-resistant. Moreover, they are affordable as well. Cypress does not have any knots and sweet-smell, which makes it one of the best choices.

Cedar

If you are looking for a wood that does not need much maintenance and can repel insects, then nothing can be a better option than cedar. It is aesthetically pleasing and has a sweet smell. However, cedar may be a little expensive.

Redwood

Redwood is durable and aesthetically pleasing. As a little, a lot of people prefer choosing redwood over others.

You should be treating the fence regularly with a weatherproof solution to prevent it from the risk of any damage.
